Introducing DJ 279 aka ‘Numbers’
DJ 279 a.k.a. ‘Numbers’ is one of the most influential people in Hip-Hop Music in the UK. He is an exceptional talent and ambassador of Hip-Hop with many strings to his bow. As a DJ he is constantly in demand – at home and abroad. Requests for his services are regularly received from places across the UK and Europe, whilst still spinning at most of the major Hip Hop events in the UK. The Game, Wu Tang Clan, Busta Rhymes, Xzibit, Guru’s Jazzamatazz, KRS One, Jazzy Jeff, Lil Wayne, Nas, P Diddy, LL Cool J, Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Ja Rule, Eminem, DJ Premier, Fabolous, Ludacris and Foxy Brown are just a few of an ever expanding list.
Not only is DJ 279 aka Numbers in demand on the club scene, he also hosted the longest running Hip Hop radio show in the UK on Choice FM.
Back in the 90’s, Numbers launched the successful monthly club night ‘Flava of Da Month’ and showcased all the Hip Hop heavy hitters, such as Big Daddy Kane, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, RZA, AZ, Termanoloy, Pharcyde, Genius, Mad Skillz, Ras Kass, Masta Ace, Canibus, Sticky Fingaz (Onyx) and The Beatnuts as well as legendary DJ’s such as Cash Money (DMC Champion 88), Mister Cee (Hot 97 NYC) and super producer DJ Premier as well as the cream of the UK Rap stars, including Blak Twang, Skinnyman, Ty and Fallacy.
Over the last couple of years, ‘Flava Of The Month’ has been resurrected for more amazing Hip Hop live shows which have included Method Man & Redman, Slaughterhouse, DJ Premier & Bumpy Knuckles.
He has achieved numerous awards, including 4 MOBO nominations (Best Radio Show), UMA Award (Best Radio DJ), Emma Award (Best Presenter on Radio), Sony Radio Award nomination (Best Music Special), Best UK Hip Hop Radio DJ by Blues & Soul Magazine, Contribution to UK Hip Hop Award and Hip Hop Personality Of The Year.
But don’t be confused by DJ 27 ‘rock a party’ 9’s ‘Mr Hip Hop’ status, he can turn his DJing hands to many musical styles, be it 70’s & 80’s Soul, Funk, Disco, Rare Groove, Boogie, Club Classics, R&B, Reggae….he’s got it all!
